Hey there Bears!

Time for another Den Meeting! Actually, this month we have two Den Meetings both on Wednesday nights. This week (March 4th) at 6:30 p.m. and again on March 18th at 6:30 p.m.

Remember, these meeting will be held at the Lansing Community Building because the church in unavailable.

A few items to keep in mind. We will begin discussing knife safety as we get ready to earn the Whittling Chip. PLEASE do not bring knives to the Den Meetings until we tell you to do so.

What we do need you to bring is your BEAR HANDBOOK with items marked off that you’ve completed at home. I will enter those items into the computer spreadsheet to make sure everyone will be ready to receive the Bear Rank by the April 21st Pack Meeting.

See you Wednesday at the Lansing Community Building,

Katrina

Bears,

We have a special project to work on this week at our Den Meeting. Since it will involve hammering, we’ve decided to move our meeting location to the Lansing Community Building. Please bring a hammer and goggles if you have them.

Anyone planning to attend the March 21st trip to the Museum of Science and Technology (“MOST”) in Syracuse, you will need to turn in your reservation and payment this Tuesday so that we can pre-order our discount tickets. The cost is $8.50 per person which includes admission to the museum, IMAX and planetarium.

SEE YOU ALL TUESDAY, FEB 10th, 6:30 p.m. AT THE LANSING COMMUNITY BUILDING.

Bears,
Looking at the Lansing Recreation Grade 2 & 3 Basketball schedule, we have conflicts with our scheduled Bear Den Meetings. I know of at least 3 third grade boys playing basketball this year from our den. I would like to propose that we move our March den meetings to Wednesdays, March 4th and March 18th. (The March 31st Pack meeting will remain as previously schedule for the last Tuesday of the month).

Please let me know whether or not your son is playing basketball (he will get the basketball beltloop if he doesn’t already have it) and if you can make the Wednesday meeting dates.

Thanks!

Katrina

Dear Bear Parents,

Tonight we completed Achievement #15. If you haven’t yet done so, please spend some time going over the Bear Handbook to mark off items you’ve completed at home. I will have a summary of what we’ve done and what we have left to do for each Scout by the Feb Den Meeting.

Blue & Gold Banquet:
The Annual Blue & Gold Banquet will be held on Saturday, February 28th, 5:30 p.m. at All Saints Church. The spaghetti and meatball dinner will be catered by Anne Miller from King Ferry Hotel. The cost is $5 per person (children younger than 1st grade are free). Maximum per immediate family is $20. Reservations and payment will be collected at the January 27th Pack Meeting.

Snack Reminder:
For January 20th Den Meeting – McDonald has Juice; Segal has Fruit. It is a Bear/Wolf meeting so plan for ~15 scouts. THANKS!

Summer Camping:
It’s time to start making your summer camping plans. Reservations for both Resident Camp (Aug 13-15th) and Day Camp (Aug 17-21st) will be taken shortly. Look for a packet with more detailed information on these two camping opportunities as well as information about our Annual Pack Campout (this June we are planning to camp near the Erie Canal with a bike ride along the canal).

Pinewood Derby:
If you did not receive a copy of the official Derby rules, please see Katrina or visit www.lansingpack48.org. Also, any Dads, Moms or siblings that would like to enter the “Dad’s Derby” can pick up a car kit for $3.75 from Katrina or at Pit Day.

This month’s theme is “A-MAZE-ing Games”. Your assignment this month is to have a Family Fun Night (this also meets Achievement #10b for the Bears).

If your son hasn’t already earned the Chess Beltloop, now might be a good time to find a cold, weekend afternoon and play a game. The requirements for the Chess Beltloop are:
1.	Identify the chess pieces and set up a chess board for play.
2.	Demonstrate the moves of each chess piece to your den leader or adult partner.
3.	Play a game of chess.
See you all at Pit Day, Ron & Katrina
